Iced Maca Latte

The middle-of-the-night feedings may be over, but mothering a toddler often seems equally as exhausting as those newborn days. At 14 months old, Ellington is a constant blur and I am the slightly-less-put-together blur behind him. He lives to be outside, pushing his trucks along the sidewalk, climbing up and down our front stairs, or diligently stepping in every puddle he can find.
Each day of mothering has given me more insight into why my mother does the things she does, but it may be her 4:00 p.m. cup of coffee I understand the most.
However, I am sensitive to caffeine. A cup of coffee in the afternoon would have me wide awake well into the wee hours of the night, so my pick-me-up of choice is maca. Maca is the Peruvian superfood with a slightly sweet, nutty flavor thought to increase energy naturally. When I first heard of maca back in my law firm days, it was an elusive and rather expensive adaptogen. But my entrepreneur/stay-at-home-mom budget is tighter, so I am very excited that Brandless now offers Maca Powder as part of its new Wellness Collection.

This maca latte can be served hot or iced, and gives me the energy I need to make it from naptime to bedtime. I add protein powder to the latte, but you could skip the protein powder and enjoy a handful of nuts or veggies dipped in hummus alongside to help keep your energy levels up!
Iced Maca Latte
1 serving unflavored protein powder (optional)
1 tablespoon cacao powder
1 tablespoon MCT oil
1 teaspoon Brandless Maca Powder
1 teaspoon maple syrup
10 oz hot water
handful of ice
splash of milk (I used oat milk)
Place protein powder, cacao powder, MCT oil, maca, maple syrup and water in a blender and blend, or use a handheld frother to mix well. Pour over ice and add a splash of milk. Note: You can use coconut oil in place of the MCT oil, but it will re-harden if you pour over ice. Keep it hot if you use coconut oil!
